Security Is Not a One-Time Project

Security Is Not a One-Time Project

Autor: Nermin Sefić

Cybersecurity is a continuous process, not a project with an end date. A commentary by Nermin Sefić.

Security is often treated as a project with a clear end date, after which it's considered solved. The reality is different: threats change continuously, so the response to them must adapt continuously as well. An organisation that views security as a state rather than a process is exposed to risk that grows precisely at the moment it feels most secure. This commentary is part of the GNK ASG Intelligence Desk system and is informational in nature.

Threats evolve continuously, and organisations that treat security as a project with an end date gradually fall out of step with those changes, left defending against risks that no longer match the current situation.

Continuous security means regularly re-evaluating assumptions, not a one-time rollout of tools and processes that then go unexamined until an incident forces the organisation to revisit them under pressure.

Continuous security means regularly re-evaluating assumptions, not a one-time rollout of tools and processes that are never revisited again until an incident forces the organisation to do so under pressure.

Building this continuous posture requires treating security budget as an ongoing operational cost rather than a one-time capital investment — a shift in accounting mindset that is often harder to achieve organisationally than the technical changes security itself requires.
