Security is often treated as a project with a clear end date, after which it's considered solved. The reality is different: threats change continuously, so the response to them must adapt continuously as well. An organisation that views security as a state rather than a process is exposed to risk that grows precisely at the moment it feels most secure. Threats evolve continuously, and organisations that treat security as a project with an end date gradually fall out of step with those changes, left defending against risks that no longer match the current situation.
Continuous security means regularly re-evaluating assumptions, not a one-time rollout of tools and processes that then go unexamined until an incident forces the organisation to revisit them under pressure.
