A crisis only reveals whether accountability, backup processes, and communication channels were prepared before the disruption.
In the moment of crisis, there's not enough time to build trust, define roles, and find replacement processes. Resilience is built during calm periods, through dull, repetitive, and verifiable preparation.
A crisis does not create weakness, it merely reveals it — an organisation that looks fragile the moment a shock hits was most likely fragile before as well, the fragility simply stayed hidden during calmer periods.
Investing in resilience before it is needed looks like an unnecessary cost until the first real test arrives — organisations that postponed that investment then pay a price they could have avoided with earlier preparation.
An organisation that regularly tests its own weaknesses makes calmer decisions once conditions actually change.
