Digitalization without a defined success metric easily becomes a cost justified by trend, not by result.
The decision to digitalize a process is often made based on expectations, but rarely subsequently measured against predefined, concrete success indicators.
Reduced processing time, error counts before and after, or actual labour-hour savings are more measurable indicators than a general claim that a process is now 'digitalized'.
Comparing the real implementation cost — including the team's hidden adjustment time — against the measured saving gives a more realistic picture than the initial projection made before the project began.
The practice of a post-implementation review, conducted three to six months after rollout, reveals whether expected benefits were actually realised or the project just changed the shape of the same problem.
